The Paperback Writer Review The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself, a Novel By Nicholas Tanek

Every so often, a book comes along that is different from the others. This book is a not another run of the mill novel. It is an emotional and true retelling of the life of Nicholas Tanek, and his love for a woman called Lynn.

Throughout the novel, we see Nicholas transform and grow as a person. His life has ups, downs, and many scary parts in between. We see him grow from his hedonistic lifestyle into a caring man who loves Lynn very much, who takes care of her. The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself, is like a modern The Panic In Needle Park, without New York City and with much more detail on the main characters.

Lynn was a beautiful person with a kind and creative soul. She struggled with self esteem, and drug addiction along with other serious issues. Through hospitalization, hard work, and love from Nicholas and her family, she was able  to re-create a positive life. Tragically, she died at age 37 from many health complications. She was a cancer survivor, she was a mother, she was a sweet person, and she was everything to Nicholas.

You will be taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions, accompanied by songs by many bands that I have never heard of. I thought it was neat that the author shared my fondness for My Bloody Valentine.

If you have ever been in love, you will understand the gravity of sadness Nicholas experienced as Lynn’s health continued to fail. This is one of the most profound and well written unconventional love stories that I have ever read. Even though as readers we did not know Lynn, by the end of the story we feel as if we are one of her good friends. When she passes, it will feel like a loss. Although the book is sad, I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to read about life, or love. I encourage you to read The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself.

I want to thank Nicholas for providing me with his books to read, and for being patient.

Soon, I will review his next book, ” Chipped Black Nail Polish.”
